The aim of the VU Foundation for Architecture History (SAG) is the promotion of architecture-historical research in general and, in particular, study devoted to the history of architecture, urban design and landscape architecture as formulated in the research programmes of the Architecture History subdepartment of the Vrije University Amsterdam (VU).
The foundation works to achieve this aim by:
a. Obtaining commissions and funds from third parties.
b. Having freelance architecture historians and/or researchers in related disciplines carry out the aforementioned study.

Clients include government ministries, museums, the Netherlands Architecture Institute (NAi), architecture firms, developers, magazines, publishers and universities.
Projects are set down in contracts and, in most cases, carried out by freelance researchers. The work always involves written assignments that eventually lead to reports or other publications. SAG board members act as coordinators and/or editors.
